I discovered photography when I was a teenager living in Naples, Italy. My father, who was in the Navy, was stationed there. By chance, the yearbook needed a photographer. I didn’t know anything about photography, but I liked the idea of being able to skip class to take pictures. The first time I saw a photograph magically appear, as it was being developed in the darkroom, changed my life forever.
I always had a natural curiosity about things and people. Photography has been a perfect fit for that curiosity. While living in Italy, I explored the busy, chaotic alleys of Naples with my camera, taking photos of Italian street life. You can see some of those images here in the gallery: Early Italian Street Scenes.
The camera has been a portal; allowing me to have profound connections with other cultures and Mother Nature.
Over the years, I’ve gone through different phases with my photography. For a long time, I primarily shot in black and white, but eventually “discovered” color. I have lived and extensively photographed New Mexico, the “Land of Enchantment”. The quality of light, historical significance, and geographic diversity have truly been an inspiration. I was proud to have my images used exclusively in the official 2014 New Mexico calendar.
Lately, I’ve been drawn to shoot large format film photography. Although digital photography has opened up whole new worlds for all photographers, I do miss the process of film. For me, the moment a photograph is taken is a very special and sacred moment. Therefore, it is worthy of the contemplation, focus, and mastery to truly capture its essence.
My vision is to create iconic, fine art imagery that will ad beauty and grace to any home or workplace. Visit my store to see available image and print formats.
